The Benefits of Buoyancy, Resistance and Warmth
As you move through water, buoyancy adds support to the joints cushioning them and preventing injury or strain.
Water also adds resistance to the body's movement, making your muscles work harder in water than on land. The harder you push, pull and kick in the water, the more resistance your body will meet.
Finally, warm water has tremendous physiological and therapeutics on the body. warm water will:
decreases blood pressure
reduces swelling of submerged parts
eases muscle spasms
reduces nerve ending sensitivity
makes it easier to move joints
increases respiratory rate
improves blood supply to the muscles and back to the heart
increases muscle relaxation
SWIMEX 700T and Atlantic Sports and Rehabilitation
ASRS is the only facility in the Charlottesville area with a SWIMEX 700T aquatic therapy pool- a private and superior therapeutic environment with many versatile features to enhance the effectiveness of therapy for swimmers and non-swimmers alike.
The paddle wheel propulsion system maintains an even flow of water throughout the pool at a speed that can be adjusted by the therapist or patient. This allows the patient the freedom of movement during exercise while maintaining a consistent level of resistance.
Multiple benches, steps and a deep water running platform provide versatility to meet the therapeutic needs of each client. Angled platforms allow for an increased impact exercise. Floor inserts change the depth of the water from 45, 50, and 60 inches to allow for weightless rehabilitation as well as progressive weight bearing exercise.
Underwater observation window allow the therapist to ensure the patient has correct exercise form. If needed, patients can be lowered into and lifted out of the pool using our hydraulic chairlift.
ASRS offers a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation. All aquatic treatment is provided by a licensed therapist and is located in a private setting.
