Mark Tulenko MPT, OCS, CSCS
Mark is the Owner and Director of Rehabilitation at Atlantic Sports and Rehabilitation Services. He started the practice in 1994. He is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He has worked closely with area Orthopaedic surgeons to develop post injury and post surgical treatment protocols for physical therapy intervention. He has special interest in treating patients with knee problems and back pain. In his off time, he enjoys tennis, fly fishing, travel, hiking and spending time with his wife and three children.
Debbie Oickle, PT, MHSc, OSC, MTC
Debbie had been with Atlantic Sports & Rehab since October of 2005. She is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist. She received her BS in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1992. She received her Master of Health Science from University of St. Augustine in 2003 with Specialization in Manual Therapy. She has taken many continuing education credits in all aspects of outpatient care and has achieved specialty certification in Manual Therapy. In addition, she also has special expertise in industrial medicine and industrial injury assessments. She is also certified as a Blankenship Functional Capacity Evaluator. Debbie is certified and licensed to perform Trigger Point Dry Needling. Debbie is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, mountain biking and skiing. She also has instructed dance and figure skating.
Stephanie VanLeeuwen, PT, DPT
Stephanie joined the Atlantic Sports & Rehab team in April 2013.
She has achieved success in the treatment of various sports injuries including sprains and strains, pain or surgery of hip, knee and ankle, rotator cuff injuries, low back pain and neck pain. She enjoys utilizing various physical therapy interventions including manual therapy and exercise to personalize each person’s treatment to get them back to their lives as quickly as possible.
Stephanie earned a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from Central Michigan University in 2005, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from Grand Valley State University, MI in 2001. She has completed numerous continuing education courses including becoming Astym certified (scar tissue technique), advanced running injuries and evidence based cervical spine evaluation and treatment. She is originally from Michigan and spent some time in the Philadelphia suburbs. In her free time she likes to spend time with her husband and dog outdoors including biking and hiking. She also likes to scrapbook and make greeting cards.
Emilio Rabelo, DPT, ACT, SCS
Emilio's educational background was first in athletic training, where he went to the University of Florida and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training. From there, he continued on to the University of Miami for graduate school where in 2009 he graduated from their Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. In addition to his athletic training and physical therapy degrees, he also completed a Sports Physical Therapy Residency in Greenville, SC through Proaxis Therapy who worked closely with the Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, and received his Sports Certified Specialist certification. The majority of his experience comes from working within an outpatient setting or directly with athletes in an athletic training room. He has had the opportunity of working with athletes varying from middle school all the way up to the professional level. Most recently he was working in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders for the past six years. In addition to his varied experience he has also become certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling, and in manipulation of the spine and extremities, is proficient in myofascial decompression (cupping), instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, and various taping techniques. He is fluent in Spanish, and while he spends the majority of his time between work and his family, his interests are in fishing, kayaking, and traveling.
Nikisha Gandhi, DPT
Nikisha (Niki) Gandhi earned a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Utica College in 2019, and a Master's Degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from CUNY in 2012. She has taken many continuing education courses where she has gained skills in manual therapy and exercises. She is certified to perform Trigger Point Dry Needling. She has years of experience in nursing homes, inpatient and outpatient. Niki enjoys spending her free time with her loving husband and their four year old son. She also likes to cook, travel, watch movies, and hike.
Amy Sander, DPT
Amy earned her Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. Before discovering her passion for physical therapy, she worked full time as a lead preschool teacher in the 2-3 year old age group in upstate New York. She has a special interest in sports injuries and utilizes various therapeutic interventions to personalize each patient's experience in order to reach their individual goals. She likes to spend her free time outdoors and has been busy exploring what Charlottesville has to offer. She is very excited to join the team at Atlantic Sports and Rehab and looking forward to serving the Charlottesville community.
Brady Fournier, DPT
Brady Fournier joined the Atlantic Sports and Rehab team to help establish the Pantops location. Brady earned his BS in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from Virginia Tech in 2012, his Masters degree in Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2016, and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2020. Brady enjoys treating a variety of patients with both orthopedic and neurological injuries and has a particular interest in gait training as well as shoulder and knee injuries. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and dog, playing piano, hiking or camping, and barefoot running.
Stephen Thompson, PT, DPT
Dr. Stephen Thompson is originally from Tokyo, Japan. He attended Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in Rochester, Minnesota, earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. He subsequently completed the MossRehab Orthopedic Residency in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and achieved board certification in orthopaedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He is skilled in manual therapy, exercise prescription, post-surgical rehabilitation, and injury management, focusing especially on acute injuries and post-operative shoulders, knees, and foot/ankles. Dr. Thompson has a strong interest in practice development, research, and continuing education. He takes pride in practicing patient-centered care and is dedicated to helping patients meet their individual goals. He enjoys meeting and treating patients of all ages and activity levels. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, enjoying the outdoors, and trying new food.
